Bocchoris’ Reforms, author Achim Popescu
The Official Journal and the National History Museum of Romania launched, on February 21 the book Bocchoris’ Reforms, by Achim Popescu. Alongside other distinguished guests,  Mr. Crişan Muşeţeanu, director of the National Museum of History, Mr. Fawzi Mohamed El-Said Gohar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt and Mr. Iulian Cârţână, pro-rector of the Hyperion University, honoured us with their presence.
Bocchoris’ Reforms signifies…an eminently scientific volume – which bears all the attributes of a genre work, including the difficulties that such a reading entails for an unadvised public. The one thing that saves it from aridity and includes it in a novelty of the last editorial publications is the spectacular of the subject: Bocchoris, the second pharaoh of the XXIVth dynasty, burnt at the stake by his rival, a kushit king, is the author of a code of laws that had been destroyed.
Through their work, personalities like Herodoth, Plutarch and Tacitus kept his name alive by recalling the existence of a code where the habeas corpus principle, taken over by Solon from Bocchoris, the legal dimension, and not exclusively religious, of marriage, the setting up of a code of contracts, the exoneration of debtors in certain conditions etc. are outlined. That is why, the restoration of the code by Achim Popescu, finished in 1978, presupposes the reinstalment, based on the precise information, of a pharaoh fated by history to obscurity.
