Book launch
On 7 June, at the BOOKFEST Fair two art albums were launched at the stand of our publishing house: Pallady (author Alexandru Cebuc) and Pictori români la Balcic/Romanian Artists in Balcic (author Doina Păuleanu). In front of the authors and of other special guests, the art critics Liviu Tudor Samuilă and Tudor  Octavian underlined the importance of restoring the great Romanian cultural values.
Pallady continues the series of Romanian Artists that began last year with the albums Luchian and Grigorescu. Rhythm, contrast, symmetry, asymmetry, colour, and light are the elements to be found in Pallady’s painting. The real value of his oeuvre does not reside in his themes, but in the invisible to be perceived as sensations. Close to the aesthetic ideal of the French artists, represented by Marquet and Matisse, Pallady preserved unaltered the original character of his oeuvre deeply rooted in the Romanian spirituality. The author remarks the friendship between the two renowned artists, Pallady and Matisse, pointing at the same time to the fact that Pallady was not Matisse’s epigone, as asserted by some of his critics. A formal argument he resorts to is the evidence of the two artists’ correspondence, which clearly illustrates the way they influenced one another. Whereas Matisse has a decorative, abstract style, Pallady’s style is more familiar, and refined, a great part in his art being represented by his still lifes, which reconstitute, almost biographically, his own environment. Leafing over the album’s pages, the readers may start a unique journey through the master’s own universe, made up of paintings, memories, regrets, revolt, and a permanent quest for perfection.
Balcic became a part of the Romanian painting by its images of romantic exoticism with minarets, mosques, and Turkish men and women. Its discovery meant the introduction of new artistic themes, which were subject to the experiments of different art formulae and dispositions. Petraşcu, Satmary, Pallady, Iser, Tonitza, Mützner – each artist found here sources of inspiration in order to express their own personalities. The new artistic experiments, from the impressionism to the search for a synthesis in the arts, everything was under the sign of trying and accomplishment. The authoress dedicated this album to the Romanian interwar artistic community of Balcic, a unique school of Romanian painting.
